How the Bureau scores a bean bag.
Every ranking on this site is produced by the same transparent model: eight criteria, fixed weights, a pass/fail safety gate, and receipts. This page is the model.

The Beanbag Bureau is a research desk. We synthesize four kinds of evidence: peer-reviewed studies, manufacturer specifications, federal safety records (CPSC), and large-sample owner-review analysis. We read the boring documents (recall notices, ASTM standards, foam certifications) so you don’t have to.
What we don’t have (yet): a physical test lab. You will never read “we sat in this chair for 40 hours” on this site unless someone actually did, on the record. When hands-on testing begins, we’ll announce it loudly on this page. Until then, every claim is desk-verifiable, which means you can check our work, and we publish the full source library so you can.

How does owner-review synthesis work?
Marketing copy says every chair is a cloud. Owners tell you which ones flatten in eight months. For each scored product we read recent owner reviews across major US retail platforms, weight recency over volume, and look for repeated, specific failure patterns (zipper splits, bead leakage, cover pilling, support collapse) rather than star averages. Star ratings are noise; repeated specifics are signal.
What we commit to
- Recalls: reflected within 48 hours of a CPSC notice, flagged at the top of every affected page.
- Prices: swept monthly, with a “prices checked” date on ranked content.
- Rankings: re-scored quarterly, with a visible changelog of what moved and why.
- Corrections: public. Errors are fixed within 24 hours of verification and logged on the corrections record.
How does the Bureau make money?
Some product links may earn an affiliate commission. The workflow makes bias structurally difficult: rankings are finalized before any monetization check happens, products without affiliate programs remain fully rankable, and no manufacturer can pay for placement, ever.
