Ultimate Sack 4000 Review (2026): 10-Year Warranty, 4 Ft Foam

The Ultimate Sack 4000 scores 85 out of 100 under our Comfort Score model, the same mark it holds in our ranking of the best bean bag chairs, and the strongest four-foot foam sack on the Bureau’s record. The case is built from paper the brand actually publishes: a 10-year limited manufacturer warranty on zippers, fabric, and seams [1], the longest warranty we have verified on a foam sack short of Lovesac’s 100-year Sac-insert warranty against manufacturer defects, per its warranty page as of September 13, 2026 [11]; 100% new shredded polyurethane foam behind a child-safety-lock zipper, made in the USA [2]; and a parts program that sells replacement covers, liners, and foam so the chair can outlive its own components. Owners largely co-sign the filing: the live Amazon listing held 4.5 out of 5 stars across 1,015 global ratings at our June 2026 check; that same listing read “Currently unavailable” on September 13, 2026 [3].

Our price file lists $180–$280 depending on cover for the scored, removable-cover 4000 (prices checked June 2026). The availability note that belonged up top in June has grown. At that check the 4000’s own page returned a 404 on ultimatesack.com while the 3, 5, and 6 ft pages stayed live, and Amazon listings kept selling it. As of September 13, 2026 that page still returns a 404, the Amazon listing reads “Currently unavailable” [3], and the only 4 ft bag on ultimatesack.com is a new model, published September 10, 2026, at $294.99 in suede and $309.99 in fur (prices checked September 2026), with a “non-removable cover with a locked zipper,” no separate inner liner, and a “spot clean only” care line [10]. The last direct listing of the classic build we can verify, captured November 2025, listed $169.99 to $229.99 by cover at regular price, with sale variants as low as $109.87 [2]. The 85 was scored on the removable-cover 4000; the cover change touches the ease-of-care and cover-durability criteria and the price shift touches value, so all three are queued for the quarterly re-score. The score stands until then.

What do you actually get?

Per the brand’s last verified product listing, the 4000 measures approximately 4 feet in diameter, 45–48 inches across and 24–28 inches tall when fully fluffed, weighs 35–40 pounds, and arrives pre-filled [2]. The construction follows the full Ultimate Sack pattern: an inner liner holding 100% new shredded polyurethane foam, a removable double-stitched outer cover in suede or fur, and a durable No. 10 zipper with a child safety lock [2]. The brand’s FAQ states that every Ultimate Sack is “proudly manufactured here in America by a family owned business,” and that all outer covers are machine washable and can be dried on a low or delicate cycle [1]. That describes the classic build. The 4 ft model listed on September 13, 2026 keeps the shredded foam but blows it directly into the decorative cover, with no separate liner, a non-removable cover with a locked zipper, and spot cleaning only [10]; the FAQ’s washable-cover line still fits the removable-cover sizes [1].

The parts economy is the quiet differentiator. Ultimate Sack lists replacement shredded foam in 16 lb ($134.99) and 25 lb ($144.99) weights, a 4 ft canvas liner ($99.99), and a 4 ft foam-plus-liner combo ($174.99), though both foam weights and every 4 ft variant showed out of stock on September 13, 2026, with only the 3 ft and 6 ft combos available [4]; the 4 ft replacement cover, still listed as removable and washable, runs $69.99 in suede and $84.99 in fur (prices checked September 2026) [5]. Our June file recorded parts from $34.99 and the suede cover at $64.99. That converts the usual bean bag death spiral (fill flattens, chair gets curbed) into a maintenance schedule, at least for the classic liner-and-cover build; the new non-removable 4 ft model has no separate liner to swap [10].

Two context notes. Size: the brand’s own copy calls the 4000 “the smallest you’ll want to go for an adult to sit comfortably” [2]; our size chart maps that decision in inches. Fill: shredded foam sits taller and firmer than loose EPS beads and recovers when fluffed; the trade-offs live in our memory foam vs EPS beads explainer. It does demand regular fluffing. The Bureau declines to take that personally.

Where does the score come from?

Start with what carries it. Warranty and service (9/10): the FAQ’s exact terms read, “A 10 year manufacturer warranty is limited to the life of the product on zippers, fabric, and seams,” manufacturer defects only, with abuse, excessive wear, and commercial use excluded, claims filed by the original purchaser with order number and photos [1]. Product listings state the same 10-year term without itemizing parts [2]; our brand file also records foam under those terms, a detail the published warranty text (zippers, fabric, seams) does not verify, so confirm foam coverage in writing at purchase. Against Cosac’s 60-day window (per our Cosac XXL review), a decade is a different philosophy of ownership. Against Lovesac it is not the longest: Lovesac’s warranty page, read September 13, 2026, gives Sac inserts a 100-year warranty against manufacturer defects and Sac covers 3 years [11], so our June line calling this the category’s longest verified warranty was wrong on the insert comparison and is corrected here. Ten years on zippers, fabric, and seams remains the longest warranty we have verified on a foam sack short of Lovesac’s 100-year insert term, and the 9 of 10 stands until the quarterly re-score, where the warranty comparison is queued. Not 10 points: coverage excludes second owners, and service-speed data is thin.

Value (9/10) follows. Our SuperSac review prices a Lovesac setup at $930 to $1,550 with insert and cover on its June 2026 record; on September 13, 2026 Lovesac listed the SuperSac insert-and-cover bundle in Wombat Phur at $1,325 regular and $861.25 on sale [13]. The scored 4000 delivered the same shredded-foam, washable-cover, parts-supported format for $180–$280 (June 2026), and the current non-removable 4 ft model at $294.99–$309.99 (prices checked September 2026) [10] still lands at roughly a quarter to a third of that Lovesac bundle. The decade-of-ownership math has moved with it: on June parts prices a refill plus a spare cover kept ten years near $400 total; on September 2026 parts prices, the $174.99 4 ft foam-and-liner combo and the $69.99 suede cover [4][5] on top of a $294.99 chair [10] come to about $540 (editorial estimate: $294.99 + $174.99 + $69.99), and that math was built for the classic liner-and-cover build, since the new 4 ft model has no separate liner. The value criterion is queued for the quarterly re-score. The honest counterweight is the Chill Sack 5 ft, filed in that review at $140–$220 and listed at $164.99 in microsuede to $225.99 in pebble fabric direct on September 13, 2026 [12], more diameter per dollar but nothing close on warranty. Ease of care (9/10) and cover durability (13/15) round out the strengths: published care instructions [1], double stitching, the locking No. 10 zipper [2], docked only for absent long-wear data. Both were scored on the removable, machine-washable cover; the September 2026 4 ft build’s non-removable, spot-clean-only cover [10] is queued for the quarterly re-score under both criteria.

Now the weak side, which is why this is an 85 and not a 90. Ergonomic support (20/25): the foam class is the right horse; the one peer-reviewed bean bag trial in our corpus, a 2022 PeerJ crossover (n=14), measured lower trapezius muscle activity during bean bag napping than in a comparable urethane chair [6]. That is category evidence, not product evidence, and the 4000 offers no lumbar structure, no backrest, and the brand’s own minimum-adult sizing [2]; taller sitters give up recline range the 5000 and 6000 keep. Fill quality (17/20): the 100% new foam claim, liner, and refill program earn most of the points; what is missing is paper. No foam density spec and no CertiPUR-US statement appear on the product or FAQ pages as of June 2026, the certification that would document low VOC emissions and exclude TDCPP-class flame retardants [7]. Absence of certification is not evidence of a problem. It is just absence, and the model scores what is on file.

What does the safety record show?

No recall. Our June 2026 search of the CPSC database returns no action against Ultimate Sack, a clean sheet worth reading against the complete US bean bag recall record: every recall from 1994 to 2018 traced to closures children could open over loose bead fill. The 4000 answers that failure mode twice, with shredded foam instead of loose beads and a documented child-safety-lock zipper [2] that matches the closure-security expectation of ASTM F1912-21, the voluntary US safety standard for bead-filled bean bag chairs [8]. One scope note: F1912 targets loose-bead designs, and the 4000’s shredded-foam fill falls outside the standard’s scope, so no compliance statement is expected here; the locking zipper simply clears the closure-security bar the standard sets for the designs it does cover. The 2014 Ace Bayou recall (about 2.2 million chairs, two child deaths) is the reason the Bureau treats that zipper line on a spec sheet as load-bearing [9]. The documented lock earns the safety-gate pass.

Who is it for, and who should skip it?

Buy the 4000 if you are one adult furnishing a bedroom, den, or dorm and you keep furniture long enough for warranty math to matter. It is also the strongest pick on our board for households with kids in the room: locking zippers, washable covers on the classic build, foam fill, and a manufacturer that sells every replaceable part. The Beanbag Bureau files the 4000 as the warranty king of the four-foot class.

Skip it if you want two-person movie seating (the 6000 or the Lovesac SuperSac class solves that), if you want a chair that becomes a guest bed (CordaRoy’s convertible owns that trick), if you prefer the soft bead-sink feel over foam’s firmer push-back, or if certification paperwork is your gating criterion, since this spec sheet currently offers none.

What can we not know without a lab?

The Bureau is a research desk, not a test lab; this score synthesizes specs, warranty text, safety records, and owner-review aggregates. Four things are unknowable from here. Actual foam density and its year-three compression rate, because no density spec is published. How firm “fully fluffed” feels for a 250 lb sitter versus a 130 lb one. Whether a year-eight warranty claim resolves as smoothly as the FAQ reads, because service-experience data is thin. And the Amazon aggregate (4.5 out of 5 across 1,015 ratings [3]) skews toward early ownership, as all star averages do.

Four things could move this score at the quarterly re-score: a published density spec, CertiPUR-US documentation, the non-removable-cover 4 ft build that replaced the classic listing (re-weighed under ease of care, cover durability, and value), and the Lovesac warranty comparison corrected above.
