Big Joe Fuf vs Chill Sack (2026): Which Cheap Foam Wins?
Big Joe Fuf XL (now the Fuf 7 Ft, 82/100) or Chill Sack 5 ft (79/100)? Near-identical size, $164.99–$309.99. Fuf wins three rounds; Chill Sack wins warranty.
Big Joe Fuf vs Chill Sack is close. The Big Joe Fuf XL (now listed as the Fuf 7 Ft; 82/100, No. 6 of 12) suits buyers wanting published care instructions and more sizes. The Chill Sack 5 ft (79/100, No. 8) suits buyers chasing the lowest entry price, $164.99 on October 1, 2026, and a 3-year warranty on its liner and cover [1, 2].
The size labels mislead. Big Joe’s “7 ft” counts diagonal feet, so the two bags are near-twins: 57 lb against 55 lb, and 62 x 51 x 35 in against 60 x 60 x 34 in [1, 2]. The real decision is fine print: warranty, returns, and price once you ignore the strikethrough. Our Comfort Score model produced both scores. Full write-ups: the Fuf XL review and the Chill Sack 5 ft review, both ranked on our 12-chair list.
How do the Big Joe Fuf XL and Chill Sack 5 ft compare at a glance?

| Score, rank | 82/100, No. 6 of 12 | 79/100, No. 8 of 12 |
The filed 82 is for the 7 ft XL and the filed 79 for the 5 ft, so neither score carries to other sizes.
Are a 7 ft Fuf and a 5 ft Chill Sack really different sizes?
No. The labels count different things. Big Joe’s page defines its 7 ft as “approx. 7 diagonal feet” of a 62 x 51 x 35 in bag [1]; Chill Sack’s page calls its 5 ft a “5 x 5 foot” bag of 60 x 60 x 34 in [2]. Run Big Joe’s diagonal rule on 60 x 60 and you get about 85 inches, or 7 feet (editorial arithmetic). Width times depth is about 22 square feet for the Fuf and 25 for the Chill Sack, so the Chill Sack takes roughly 14% more floor at 2 lb less (editorial arithmetic). Both earn 8/10 on size-to-space fit, a draw. Our size chart files them in different classes by nominal feet; trust the dimensions.
Closest sizes by width and depth make the fairer price test:
| Pair | Fuf [8] | Chill Sack [9] |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 4 Ft, 34 x 36 in: $84.99–$149.99 | 3 ft, 36 x 36 in: $89.99 |
| Medium | 5 Ft, 38 x 46 in: $124.99–$219.99 | 4 ft, 48 x 48 in: $139.99–$149.99 |
| Couch-scale | 7 Ft, 62 x 51 in: $184.99–$309.99 | 5 ft, 60 x 60 in: $164.99–$225.99 |
At the entry fabric the Chill Sack is $20 cheaper at couch scale ($164.99 against $184.99); the Fuf is $5 to $15 cheaper in the two smaller pairs, though the Chill Sack 4 ft is the bigger bag in the medium pair. Chill Sack’s navigation still lists a 6 ft sack and a 7.5 ft lounger, but both pages returned 404 on October 1, 2026, so its direct range is 3 ft to 5 ft sacks plus a 6 ft lounger ($199.99–$214.99) [2, 9]; Big Joe sells seven Fuf sizes up to an 8 Ft Giant [8].
Big Joe Fuf vs Chill Sack: whose foam wins on support and fill?
The Fuf wins both rounds: support 20/25 to 19/25, fill 17/20 to 15/20.
Support is a near-tie because both bags are frameless loungers built for reclining, not for working upright. The only bean bag trial we hold, a 2022 PeerJ nap study of 14 participants, recorded lower electromyography readings from the neck-region trapezius with a bean bag than with a urethane chair [10]. The bag was a micro-bead Yogibo Max, and Webshark Inc. of Osaka, listed in the paper as its source, paid for the study through a sponsored research contract; the paper says the funder had no role in design, analysis, or publication. Neither the Fuf nor the Chill Sack was tested, so the trial cannot rank these two foam sacks.
The fill gap is about recovery and paperwork. Both bags ship compressed, and the filed owner synthesis names slow first-week recovery in each. Big Joe says its bag fills out in 72 hours [1]. Chill Sack claims its foam recovers 10 times faster than rivals’ and is typically ready by day’s end [11]; the filed review says to plan on days. Neither maker publishes a foam density or a CertiPUR-US certificate, the low-emissions foam program [12]. Big Joe calls its foam never-goes-flat, yet the same page says the bag may occasionally need tossing around to redistribute it [1]. Foam outlasts beads, per our fill explainer.
Chill Sack or Big Joe: which cover is easier to live with?
Cover durability is a draw at 12/15 each; ease of care goes to the Fuf, 9/10 to 8/10.
Both covers unzip and machine-wash, so the care gap is about instructions and spare parts. Big Joe publishes a routine (cold wash, gentle cycle, air dry) and warns that some fabrics, such as Premium vegan leather, are spot-clean only [1]. Chill Sack says its microfiber covers machine-wash and have double-stitched seams [2], with no wash temperature or drying instruction on the pages read [4]. Durability ties; neither states a zipper standard.
Spare covers change the math. A replacement 7 ft Fuf cover runs from $117.99 in Standard fabrics to $229.99 in Premium, 64% of the bag’s $184.99 entry price at the low end; the $51.99 in the filed review is the 4 ft cover [8]. A Chill Sack 5 ft cover runs $67.49–$71.99, about 41% of its $164.99 entry price [9] (editorial arithmetic).
Is Chill Sack’s 3-year warranty worth more than Big Joe’s 1-year?
Warranty and service goes to Chill Sack, 8/10 to 7/10, but the one-point gap hides how differently the two read.
Chill Sack words its warranty differently from page to page. The banner says “3-Year Unconditional Warranty” and the product page “3 year, full replacement” [2]; the FAQ gives the scope, “a 3 year warranty that covers any defects of the liner and cover,” with the owner paying to ship the bag back and Chill Sack paying to send the repaired or replaced item home [4]. The filed review’s “3-year full replacement” is the product-page phrase, kept as the filed value and queued for re-score. Big Joe’s support article, updated September 15, 2026, gives one year from purchase for seams, fabric, foam filling, and zippers; a claim needs photos, including the item’s tag, and a receipt from an authorized seller; Big Joe allows one replacement per purchase and says it does not require damaged items to be shipped back [3]. A cover that fails in year two or three is a free replacement worth about $67.49 from Chill Sack and a $117.99-plus purchase from Big Joe, if the maker accepts the defect [8, 9].
Returns differ in who pays. Big Joe’s 7 Ft page promises 30 days from delivery with home pickup and flat fees [1]; its returns article lists the 7 ft Fuf for in-home pickup of like-new bags with a 10% restocking fee, $20 minimum, deducted from the refund [5], about $20 on a Standard bag (editorial arithmetic). Its refund policy page says instead that returns start within 30 days of order placement and the buyer pays shipping, which “may cost more than the product” [13]. Chill Sack puts return shipping on you, deducts it from the refund, and wants an unused bag in its original packaging [4, 14]; its policies page words the refund as being for defective products within 30 days of receipt [15].
What do you actually pay for a cheap shredded foam bean bag?
Value is a draw at 9/10 each. Both sites show a selling price beside a higher struck-through price; this page compares selling prices only. Every Chill Sack 5 ft price sits exactly 20% below its strikethrough (editorial arithmetic), for example $164.99 against $206.24 [2, 9]. Big Joe’s 7 ft page labels its strikethrough “MSRP” and shows 20% off on Standard and Premium fabrics and 27% off on Signature [1, 8]. Chill Sack’s sitewide “Massive Sale” banner carries a countdown and free shipping [2], yet its promotions page lists nothing beyond current sales [16]. The filed review’s list-price complaint came from an 8 ft Amazon listing that returned no price on October 1, so it is unchecked; on the direct 5 ft page the strikethrough gap is $41.25 to $56.50 (editorial arithmetic).
Add one spare cover and entry prices become about $232.48 for the Chill Sack and $302.98 for the Fuf (editorial arithmetic). The $164.99 headline is microsuede, and only 4 of its 15 colors could be ordered on October 1, 2026; 9 of the 25 variants of the 5 ft were available, against 15 of 16 for the Fuf 7 Ft [8, 9] (editorial count).
What does the score tally say?
| Criterion | Weight | Big Joe Fuf XL | Chill Sack 5 ft | Round winner |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ergonomic support | 25 | 20 | 19 | Fuf |
| Fill quality and recovery | 20 | 17 | 15 | Fuf |
| Cover durability and materials | 15 | 12 | 12 | Draw |
| Size-to-space fit | 10 | 8 | 8 | Draw |
| Ease of care | 10 | 9 | 8 | Fuf |
| Warranty and service | 10 | 7 | 8 | Chill Sack |
| Value | 10 | 9 | 9 | Draw |
| Total | 100 | 82 | 79 | Fuf by 3 |
The Fuf wins three rounds, the Chill Sack one, and three are draws. Every mark above is the filed value; nothing was re-scored here.
Is either one a safety risk?
CPSC’s database names neither bag. The filed reviews rest on checks dated June 10, 2026; this desk re-ran the search on October 1, 2026, and its bean bag results include no Big Joe, Fuf, or Chill Sack product, with January 2018 still the newest bean bag chair recall [17]. Comfort Research, the maker of Big Joe, has two resolved recalls, both disclosed in the filed Fuf review [18]. On December 19, 2014, about 125,000 vinyl, bead-filled chairs were recalled because children could open the single exterior zipper; the repair was permanently disabling it [19]. In January 2018, about 1,200 Ultra Lounge covers, sold without bead filling, were recalled over the same hazard, with a refund [20]. Neither involved the Fuf line: one covered vinyl bead-filled chairs, the other stand-alone covers.
ASTM F1912-21 is the voluntary standard for bean bag chairs and covers [21]; our recall explainer reads its scope as aimed at loose bead fill, but a missing statement is still a gap. Big Joe’s 7 Ft listing mentions dual zippers “for extra safety” and a paperclip to open the cover [1], which names no standard. Chill Sack says “premium zippers” and nothing about child resistance [2, 4]. With children under five at home, treat both zippers as openable and read our toddler safety guide.
Should you buy the Big Joe Fuf or the Chill Sack?
Buy the Big Joe Fuf 7 Ft (the former XL) if:
- You want a published wash routine and fabrics beyond microfiber, such as boucle and vegan leather ($309.99), with Standard at $184.99 [1].
- You may want another size later: the line runs from a 3 ft pouf to an 8 ft Giant [8].
- You would rather not ship a 57 lb bag back for a warranty claim: Big Joe says damaged items need not be sent back [3].
Buy the Chill Sack 5 ft if:
- Floor price decides: $164.99 in microsuede, if your color is in stock, plus a $67.49 spare cover [2, 9].
- You want three years on the liner and cover [4] and accept paying to ship a 55 lb bag back for a claim or a return.
- You have about 25 square feet of floor and a 5 ft sack is big enough [9].
Skip both if you need upright support or a warranty longer than three years: Ultimate Sack vs Lovesac and Lovesac alternatives cover the premium routes, and Big Joe Milano vs Fuf XL sets the Fuf against a bead armchair.
What can a research desk not tell you?
This page comes from a desk, not a lab, and nobody here has handled either bag. Foam density, re-loft speed, year-three cover wear, and how warranty claims resolve are beyond what spec sheets and owner reviews show; the owner synthesis thins out after year five. Three checks fell short on October 1, 2026: Walmart returned a verification page, Amazon returned no prices, and Big Joe’s support site blocks automated browsers, so its articles came through the help center’s public feed.
The Fuf XL is the better-scored bag and the Chill Sack the cheaper one to keep; 82 to 79 describes that near-tie fairly. Either way, pay the selling price, not the strikethrough.

Questions, answered
Big Joe Fuf vs Chill Sack: which is better for a family room or dorm?
The Big Joe Fuf XL (now the Fuf 7 Ft) scores 82/100 and the Chill Sack 5 ft 79/100. The Fuf wins support, fill, and care; the Chill Sack wins warranty, 3 years against 1; cover, size, and value are draws. For a dorm or den where a published wash routine and size options matter, pick the Fuf. If the lowest price and a longer warranty matter more, pick the Chill Sack.
Is the Chill Sack 5 ft the same size as the Big Joe Fuf 7 ft?
Nearly. The Chill Sack 5 ft lists 60 x 60 x 34 inches and 55 lb; the Big Joe Fuf 7 Ft (formerly the Fuf XL) lists 62 x 51 x 35 inches and 57 lb. That is about 25 and 22 square feet of width times depth (editorial arithmetic), so the Chill Sack takes roughly 14% more. Big Joe counts diagonal feet; Chill Sack counts its 5 x 5 foot footprint.
Is a cheap shredded foam bean bag worth it?
Yes, if you buy at the selling price shown. On October 1, 2026 the Chill Sack 5 ft started at $164.99 and the Fuf 7 Ft at $184.99; with one spare cover that is about $232.48 and $302.98 (editorial arithmetic). Both sites show a strikethrough price 25% above the entry price, which this page ignores. Neither maker publishes a foam density or CertiPUR-US certificate.
Which has the better warranty, Chill Sack or Big Joe Fuf?
Chill Sack, on paper. Its FAQ gives 3 years covering defects of the liner and cover; the owner pays to ship the bag back and Chill Sack pays the return leg. Big Joe gives the Fuf one year, covering foam filling and zippers, with proof of purchase from an authorized retailer and photos required; it says damaged items need not be shipped back. Chill Sack's FAQ does not name the foam.
Are the Big Joe Fuf and Chill Sack zippers child-resistant?
Neither maker publishes an ASTM F1912-21 statement. Big Joe's Fuf 7 Ft listing mentions dual zippers for extra safety and opening the cover with a paperclip; Chill Sack says premium zippers only. Neither bag has a recall in CPSC's database as of October 1, 2026, but Big Joe's parent, Comfort Research, has two resolved recalls on other products. Keep children under five away from either zipper.
